New Grading System PDF Print E-mail

hi guys ,
i am always thinking of how we can improve the standard of our club and karate , so i have made some changes to the structure of the club and gradings inperticular
we are going to be useing our dojo kun when registering to grade , there is a philosithy in karate that is well known , karate is a great self defence but is also world known for having a live changing philosithy this i belive is important to practice just as much as our karate techniques , katas and kumite so from now on when a student registers to grade they will have to wright down the dojo kun this will be aimed mainly at the juniors in our club , but it is just as important for the seniors to .

the dojo kun is on our web site so all students can find out what they need to know , the aim of karate is to create a good character strong in mind as well as body just like our karate and this is what we must practise , i belive if i was taught the dojo kun when i started karate i would not have made some of the mistakes i have in my life and i believe this is only going to help us achieve our aim to produce good karateka .

our grading courses up till now (for myself ) have been rushed with a lot to fit in in a small time( basics , kata , kumite ) and we have not even got into the application of the katas , so from now on i will produce 3 courses per grade , 1/ for basics , 2/ for kata and the application to the katas , 3/ kumite ;
the dates of all courses will be on the events page like they are right now , this i believe will change the standard of the club with myself looking more on a one to one bases with students and taking my time on courses in stead of rushing to just get through it , please remember this will cost the club more money in terms of hall fees and i know at first a lot of students will not come to all the courses but then if they are not good enough to pass there grade that will be the reason why , please remember i am dedicated to making the students that i teach as good as i possibly can and i am putting my money were my mouth is ( as they say ) but that is because i look at dedicated students and ask myself what can i do to make them better so this is what i am going to do to improve you .

kata application ; i beleve over the last few years from leaving the WSKA to joining the WSKO that i have learnt so much and only know do i realy understand how important kata application is, if you know what you are really surposed to be doing then you can practise it better , so the application to your gradeing kata will have to be performed at your gradeing as from easter 2011 , also from now on there will be a panel of black belts ( 3 ) that will grade u on a point system u will have to get a mimnimum amount of points to pass your gradeing , i have always aimed for this in the structure of the club and by december 2010 we will be ready for this , if any student does not pass they will resite there next gradeing free of charge .

st pats karate club started in febuary 2007 we are turning into to great club with a real aim , and that is to produce great students not just people that can fight but people that know when not to fit and to practise karate every day not just in the dojo so below are in simple terms the NEW structure to grade within st pats karate club.

1/ gradeings are every 4 months
2/ there will be 3 course relevent for your grade over 4 months
    if u can not attend one of these you must let your instructor now this
3/ you must register before the day of your gradeing you can do this at one of courses
    to register you will be given a register form which you must returned along with your license and grading fee
    at least one week before the gradeing ,
4/ there will be 3 examiners at the grading all with grading sheets , each examiner will be minimum grade of 1st dan and will give you a point mark out of 10
    all 3 points will be added together to give a final number , the amount of points you need will be on the register form
5/ you will need to also perform the application of your kata under the kata section of the gradeing ,

please remember that we all have a responsibility to uphold the karate-do that has been passed down through generations know your karate and good luck
