We had a small squad travel up to the West Midlands to compete in the UK open championships held by Paul Campbell and PC karate not the best of days for us but still coming back with 6 medals 3 x 2nd , 3 x 3rd ,
We entered 2 teams under 10s kata and under 10s kumite In the team kata our guys had to compete with under 16 yrs and coming 4th great effort from cory giles , aaliyah wiley and leah driscoll this being there first attemp at the team kata event , in team kumite we had isaac baxter , cory giles and ryan howells they again competeing for the first time in the tream event and getting to the final and picking up a silver medal , in the indivdual events KATA under 10s we had cory giles who got to the quater finals losing 2 - 1 and was very unlucky not to win , leah driscoll competing better and always improving but unlucky not to medal along with aaron baxter who is only 6 yrs of age and his brother isaac baxter both traveling away for the first time with the squad , in the under 12yrs we had jack seward having to perform a lower grade kata going against his plan for the day but still a great effort from him , also in the senior event we had paul green who does not seam to get much luck going out to alyx white the winner on the day but paul is showing great improvement as always KUMITE we had in the under 8 yrs aaron baxter fighting for his first time he was the youngest in the event and fought great for his first attempt but unlucky not to medal , under 10 yrs heavyweight saw ryan howells great fight from him but going out in the first round and isaac baxter who was again fighting for the first time getting to the last 8 but again unlucky not to medal , under 10 yrs lightweight cory giles fighting in this divistion for the first time fighting the best to date getting to the final and unlucky not to win the event silver medal for him , under 12 yrs lightweight section we had jack seward trying to improve from his great fight at the last tournament fighting the reigning british champion and unlucky not to progress , in the senior kumite was our best day for 2 years with 5 fighters paul green in the lightweight weight section picking up a silver medal and only losing after extra time great effort all day from him his best comp to date , in the midleweight section lewis beven fighting after his bad injury at the last comp and only losing by a point lewis only a white belt this his 2nd comp already i am sure the good days will come for him , david green picking up a bronze medal getting to the semi finals not his best performance but achieving what he set out to do mission achieved for him , in the masters event goeffrey nesbett losing in the quater finals to the winner on the day unlucky draw for geof , and rob green getting to the final not his best of days picking up a silver medal , well done to all competers at what is turning out to be a difficult venue for us but we have now picked up 46 medals in 9 outings in 2011 not bad with only 1 dan grade in the squad , all the tournament league is now up to date along with the team league so check out your new club ranking , the next comp is on october 15th st pats closed kata comp and the 28th of november at western super mare WKU invertational for entry form ask at your club also the clubs medal table has been updated to have at look at this years events in full .
